Yesterday was India's 78th Independence Day. Every house, car, bike, scooter, had a Tiranga, India's National Flag, on it. People tried their best to put on an outfit, either of tricolor combination or similar to that. Why? What is the significance of a National Flag? How is it valuable?
Well, a National Flag is not just a mere symbol but a Patriotic Symbol, much more than a piece of fabric. It represents a Nation, its People, Land, Government and Culture. It encourages us to make our present a foundation for a better tomorrow. A National Flag is a symbol and representation of a country which portrays that country to the rest of the world. It conveys a sense of identity, belonging and heritage. It signifies dedication to liberty, justice and freedom for all.
I remember a scene in movie Chak De India, where Kabir Khan, Indian National Women's Hockey Team Coach, proudly said, "Dekho! Pehli baar kisi gore ko India ka Tiranga lehrate hue dekh raha hoon." In movie 83, a child, waving Tiranga in stadium, made the whole Indian National Men's Cricket Team, gather up all their courage, to win the Men's Cricket World Cup. It's all because a National Flag represents the hopes and aspirations of the people of that nation. It is a symbol of National Pride.
Abhinav Bindra, Geeta Phogat, Mary Kom, Neeraj Chopra, all made us proud, when we saw our Tiranga, rising the highest. On 26 July, 1999, every Indian felt proud to see Tiranga on every peak of Kargil sector of Jammu & Kashmir. This is the power of a National Flag, both for a country and its citizens.
Yesterday, we waved Tiranga on our terrace or in our balcony. Today, fold it and put it back, with honor. It's not a piece of decoration, it's our Pride.
