अहोई अष्टमी (Ahoi Ashtami) is a Hindu Festival celebrated by Mothers 🤱🏻👩🏻🍼 for Well Being & Long Life of their Children 🧒🏻👧🏻. It is celebrated on 8th Day of Lunar Month Kartik, 8 Days Before Festival of Lights, 🎇 Deepawali 🎆.
Once a Moneylender's Wife, Mother of 7 Sons, was digging soil in forest, to renovate her house 🏡 for 🎇 Deepawali 🎆. While doing so, she accidentally killed a Lion's 🦁 Young One, with a Spade. The Lion 🦁 cursed her to the Same Fate & her all 7 Sons died within a year. The couple 👫🏻 couldn't tolerate this pain & felt unconscious. Suddenly, there was an आकाशवाणी ☄️ (Divine Voice from Sky), "Serve Holy Cow 🐄 & Worship Goddess अहोई, Protector of Offspring of All Living Beings". They followed these words. On 8th Day of Kartik Month, the Woman drew a Young Lion 🦁, Performed Goddess अहोई Fast & Repented for her Sin. Goddess अहोई, pleased with her Devotion & Honesty, appeared & gave her Boon of Fertility.
Mothers 🤱🏻👩🏻🍼 observe a Day Long निर्जला व्रत (No Food 🍛❌ No Water 🍶❌). They draw Goddess Ahoi's Image with गेरू (Ochre) on walls or embroider it on a cloth & hang it on wall. The Image should have अष्ठ कोष्ठक (8 Corners), as अहोई अष्टमी is associated with अष्टमी तिथि (Date 8), Young Children 🧒🏻👧🏻 & a Lion 🦁. They sanctify पूजा स्थल (Prayer Place) with गंगा जल (Holy Water) & draw अल्पना or रंगोली (Rangoli) there. In evening, they narrate अहोई Mata's Story, under Star's View 🎆 & break their fast after Seeing them & Offering अर्घ (Water) to them. Food Items used in पूजा (Prayer) are हलवा (Halwa), 8 पूड़ी (Puris) & 8 पुआ (Puas).
