A child, returned from school ๐ฆ & gave a paper to his mother. He said, "My teacher gave this paper to me & told me to only give it to my mother." His mother, with teary eyes, read it loud to her child, "Your son is a genius. This school is too small for him & doesn't have enough good teachers for training him. Please teach him yourself." After many years, the mother died & her child, now an adult, saw a folded paper in a corner of a drawer in a desk. The paper said, "Your son is addled (Mentally Ill). We won't let him come to school anymore." He cried for hours & then wrote in his diary, "Thomas Alva Edison was an Addled Child that, by a Hero Mother, became The Genius of the Century."
Edison's Dyslexia & ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) led his mother to Home ๐ฉ School him. He also lost almost all his hearing, at around age of 12. He was Nearly Deaf as an Adult. Still, he became an Incredible ๐๐ป Inventor. Earlier, Edison worked as a Telegraph Operator. In 1876, he established his 1st Laboratory Facility in Menlo Park, New Jersy, where many of his early inventions were developed. His Most Famous Invention is, Electric Light Bulb ๐ก.
Actually, Edison wasn't the 1st to try creating any such thing. In 1802, Sir Humphry Davy created Electric Arc Lamp. In 1840, Warren de la Rue enclosed a Coiled Platinum Filament in a Vacuum Tube & passed Electric Current through it. In 1850, Joseph Wilson Swan created a Light Bulb by enclosing Carbonized Paper Filaments in an Evacuated Glass Bulb. Finally, Thomas Alva Edison was Credited with Inventing The Light Bulb ๐ก.
He was looking for a High Resistance System that would require Far Less Electrical Power than Arc Lamps. One night, while lying in bed, he came up with the idea to use Carbonized Bamboo instead of Metal for Filament. This Light Bulb Moment created 1st Practical Light Bulb ๐ก, changing our lives forever.
By October 1879, Edison's Team produced a Light Bulb ๐ก with a Carbonized Filament of Uncoated Cotton Thread that could last for 14 hrs & 30 mins. After 14 Months of Research ✍๐ป๐ฉ๐ป๐ป๐ง๐ป๐ป๐จ๐ป๐ป, 40,000 Dollars ๐ต Investment, More Than 1,200 Experiments ๐ฌ & 1,000 Unsuccessful ๐๐ป Attempts, Thomas Alva Edison announced The Invention of The Light Bulb ๐ก in his Menlo Park Laboratory on October 21, 1879. Edison's Bulb ๐ก was made of Carbonated Bamboo, allowing it to Last Longer & Use Less Energy than Previous Incandescent Light Bulbs. Edison once said, "Genius is 1% Inspiration, 99% Perspiration."
Term 'Light Bulb' is derived from Bulbous Shape of Early Incandescent Lamps' Glass Enclosure, Designed to Protect Filament & Diffuse Light Evenly. Shape & Function gave rise to Colloquial Term, encapsulating its role as a Source of Illumination.
Electric Light Bulb ๐ก is One of The Most Important Inventions. It let people to see at night with an equipment much safer than Kerosene Lamps. It helped to Establish Social Order after Sundown, Extended Workday Well into Night, Navigate & Travel Safely in Dark. It revolutionized Home & Work Life, Influenced Urban Development & Accelerated Economy.
The World's Longest - Lasting Light Bulb ๐ก, Centennial Light, is located at 4550 East Avenue, Livermore, California. It is maintained by Livermore - Pleasanton Fire Department. The Department claims that The Bulb ๐ก, installed in 1901, has only been Turned Off a Handful of Times.
Edison's other Gifts to the World are Alkaline Battery ๐, Carbon Microphone ๐️, Motion Picture Camera ๐ฅ, Phonograph, & many more. And Today, Oct 21, is Electric Light Bulb's ๐ก B'Day ๐.
Happy B'Day ๐ Electric Light Bulb ๐ก
